Angela Rivers, Ph.D.

Director of the Sickle Cell Transition Adolescent-Adult Readiness Clinic (STAR) at the University of Illinois, Chicago
Dr. Angela Rivers is currently the Director of the Sickle Cell Transition Adolescent-Adult Readiness Clinic (STAR) at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Her clinical focus is the development of new models of health care delivery for adolescents and young adult patients with sickle cell disease. Her research interest are all linked to the common goal of improving quality of life for sickle cell patients. Her translational research focuses on drug development for the treatment of sickle cell disease. She is currently investigating drugs that induce Hb F and reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS). She received a Ph.D. from Meharry Medical College. She received an MD from Stanford Medical School. She completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at University of South Florida. She completed her pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Florida.
